Stephen Robinson
Based in Liverpool, I am the Managing Director of Fully Charged Recruitment Ltd – the latest venture of Hyperion Cleantech Group in partnership with Robert Llewellyn’s Fully Charged. With over a decade of experience hiring across the global energy, automotive and cleantech sectors, I have built and led specialist recruitment teams across the UK and Middle East. My career so far has included spending two years living in Saudi Arabia where I led international recruitment campaigns for major energy and EPC companies and for the past 6 years, I have specifically been driving the growth of the EV and Future Mobility sector across the UK, Europe and the US.
Having studied a master’s degree in Urban Regeneration and Planning at the University of Liverpool, I had initially hoped to one day become a town planner or better still, an architect. However, when I graduated during the recession of 2012, there was a significant lack of job opportunities in the North which meant I had two options; relocate to London or consider transitioning into something completely different.
I opted for the latter. Despite not knowing too much about recruitment, I did know it was all about helping people which I care deeply about. A passion which was first developed having spent 7 years working in retail whilst studying. Here, I managed a well-established family-run Jewellery business where I would spend most of my days helping my clients to find their perfect diamond ring or wristwatch. This role taught me everything I needed to know about delivering an exceptional service to customers. The buzz I would get from securing a sale whilst bringing a smile to the faces of my customers was incredible and it is that same sense of reward I get from my role today. There’s nothing quite like working with people from all over the world, helping them pursue or elevate their dream career in cleantech, partnering with the most innovative companies to support the transition to clean energy and mobility whilst at the same time, having such a positive impact on the environment. This is what motivates me every day.
I am a father to my 4-year-old son Connor James and Husband to my beautiful Wife Holly. To say I am competitive would be an understatement. I’ve a love for running and playing football. I play weekly in one of the UK’s most reputable amateur football leagues and typically run between 25-30 miles per week and competing in at least 1 full marathon each year. I love fundraising and getting involved in charity events given touching on the kick I get from helping others. In my spare time I love to walk, hike and spend time with my family and friends here in Liverpool. My two guilty pleasures in life are cake (absolutely any kind) and 80’s music and as a social animal who hates missing out, if there’s a social event or a get together with either of those involved, my name better be on the list!

Having worked in international recruitment and search since 1992, in 2007, tired of hotels, and uninspiring market sectors I resigned and I Co-Founded a UK based renewable energy installer/EPC company. We quickly became one of the leading companies nationally, allowing me to become a vocal advocate in the media for clean technologies, and to being invited to sit on the Policy Board for the UK Renewable Energy Association. We built the business to 52 employees and £6.4m revenues, during the ‘solar-coaster’ years.
I fell in love with cleantech but missed the ‘people’ aspect of being in search. Supporting both companies and individuals to grow. In 2014 I Founded Hyperion Executive Search to headhunt exclusively in the clean technology sectors; renewable energy, energy storage and electric and smart mobility, among other subcategories.
Today we have worked with some of the best known and most innovative cleantech companies in the world. Something I’m really proud of. Working extensively with post-investment start-ups, scale-ups and VC’s is what motivates me most and has lead me to also be a mentor for cleantech accelerators like Plug and Play Tech, and Foresight.
My passion and curiosity has also lead me to create and host the ‘Leaders in Cleantech’ podcast, where I interview leading founders, CEOs and VCs in the cleantech sector globally.
I’m now focused on building the Hyperion Cleantech Group globally.
I have three awesome kids, an old cat, and love to cycle for health, peace and pleasure. Born in London, I live in the great city of Liverpool. I love to travel and (pandemics aside) I’m fortunate to meet clients, and to speak at and attend conferences globally. I love to read, my bookcase is a thing of beauty, and I follow Liverpool Football club. I’m still hoping to be signed up at some point, but time is ticking on that one.

I studied Geography at The University Edinburgh and climate change was a central theme that ran through my degree. After graduating, I knew that I wanted to develop my career in an area which would have a positive impact on our environment and help tackle the effects of climate change. Renewable energy has always really appealed to me and prior to joining Hyperion, I spent nearly five years as Head of Project Resources for a renewable energy installation business. We specialised in solar PV but also installed small-scale wind turbines and renewable heating technologies.
After five great years of the solar boom, I was looking for a new challenge where I could build on my knowledge of and passion for the sector, but by doing something completely different. Hyperion gave me the opportunity to do this and to work within new areas of cleantech. I love working with our clients who are all having such an impact on tackling climate change. I find it so rewarding to successfully place great candidates with the most innovative companies, as I’m playing my part in advancing the cleantech sector.
Having grown up in Kent and studied in Edinburgh, I settled in Liverpool in 2009 and very much consider it home. As an avid Liverpool FC supporter, I try to get to Anfield as much as I can. Nothing beats a Champions League match under the floodlights at Anfield! I’m lucky to have two amazing boys who always make me smile, and keep me very busy!! I love spending my weekends as a family, playing football together, teaching my son to ride his bike and walking on the beach or in the woods.
Knowing that my work in the cleantech sector will contribute towards making the world a better place for us, my children and future generations is my biggest inspiration.
